A Letter from an NHS Worker

The Welsh Underground Network has recently received an anonymous email from a concerned NHS worker in Wales about their anger and disappointment with the Welsh Governments response to the massacre in Palestine. They feel silenced and unable to speak publicly about their anger so we publish this letter on their behalf.

Dear WUN,

Please publish this letter anonymously on my behalf, as I am unable to speak my full mind at work.

I am an NHS worker who is completely and utterly torn apart watching the attacks on Gaza’s healthcare system by “israel”.

I have watched in horror as my international colleagues are targeted. The majority of western politicians pretend that their deaths are acceptable, just a price to be paid in “israel’s” god-given “right to defend herself”.

Do Mark Drakeford, Kier Starmer and Rishi Sunak seriously believe that healthcare staff are Hamas assets?

My colleagues in Wales are represented by weak unions, and weak politicians. All who bleat that innocent deaths are unacceptable but take no real action to end the suffering. Their hypocrisy falls like salt on open wounds, our hearts are bleeding out for the people of Gaza.

Just like the vinegar being used to treat pseudomonad infections in overcrowded, bombed out hospitals in Gaza, the Senedd’s recent call for ceasefire is not enough! It is not effective! It is nothing but a pat on the back, we tried, we’re only a small nation, we can’t do more, IT’S NOT A DEVOLVED MATTER.

Shame.

Shame and shame and shame on the cowardly politicians who put their jobs above the suffering of millions of people.

If they were serious they would enact laws. Work publicly and loudly to expel the criminal diplomats from the “israeli” embassy. They would kick arms manufacturers out of Wales. They would prevent the transport of arms. Support militant workers strikes.

I am at a loss for words when I confront the Welsh exceptionalism that reeks from their statements. Nation of Sanctuary?!

What a poor joke!

Welsh labour is in thrall to Kier Starmer, weak and bloated by years of electoral victory. Well, I think that the Welsh people should stand up and say,

“No more”

No more votes until we see moral clarity.

No more support until we see real action.

No more respect until we see a free Palestine, from the river to the sea.

In eternal solidarity and anger,

An NHS worker in Wales
